Seasonal Star Cycles
Jupiter the Guru
December 2007
Elizabeth Ault MA, CPCC Jupiter, known as Zeus to the Greeks, wields mighty lightening bolts from Mt. Olympus. He was the sovereign king of light and celestial realms. Jupiter, the largest planet, rules the season of Sagittarius, he is also known as the archer. Sagittarius is depicted in the stars as a centaur with bow and arrow. The archer’s arrow is aimed directly at the Galactic Center. This is the central energetic vortex of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Sagittarius’s time is from November 22nd through to December 21st, the day before the Winter Solstice, the deepest still point at the core of each year.
Jupiter had to overthrow his father, Saturn or Chronos, to become King of the Gods. As the God of the sky and protector of all, his allie is the far sighted eagle. As the sovereign, he ruled with laws and kept social order. The legends reveal that he also shared himself generously with beautiful women, to the dismay of his wife Demeter.
Jupiter seeks underlying truths and the most profound levels of higher thinking.Communities of people who love and believe the same fundamental laws of how the universe is organized are connected in astrology, by Jupiter. He is the Guru of all forms of spiritual awakening, expanded awareness, is a promoter of generosity and attempts to assist us on our way to fulfillment and self realization. He is understood as a benevolent, optimistic and joyful planet.
Jupiter is known as the wise one imbued with understanding of numbers, formative principals and sacred geometry. This knowledge is a foundation for symbolic thinking for life, architecture, botany, and understanding the balance of dimensions. Jupiter carries a refined intellect and the virtue of the capacity for complex discernment to separate the wheat from the chaff in any situation. The cathedrals of Europe embody sacred geometry to create uplifting forces that catalyze worship.
A well placed Jupiter in one’s natal chart can indicate potential for spiritual advancement, wealth and a respected place in your community. It is also aligned with earnest effort, training, education and how reliability can lift one up into more honorable livelihood than one’s birth might have brought. Higher education and master teachings, including the spiritual laws of how the universe works are the domain of Jupiter. For example understanding and applying the Law of Attraction, as discussed in the movie the "The Secret" are the realm of Jupiter. The downside of too much opulence, which may be a gift of Jupiter, is the ease that may bring on laziness and the vices of gluttony.
The day of the week that is named after Jupiter is Thursday, roughly translated as Jeudi, in French. Jupiter commands higher thinking and wisdom. It resonates with the 6TH third eye chakra. Jupiter cultivates right conduct, and urges us to have self control and take no part in conflict. Jupiter asks us to have genuine gratitude for everything that has occurred in our lives. It asks the question: How does the awareness of gratitude shift my perception and change my experiences ?
Jupiter’s huge size dominates our solar system. It is more than 300 times the size of the Earth and has 16 moons. This giant takes about 12 years to travel around the Zodiac at a rate of 32.7 degrees annually, so a sign a year.
The juiciest aspect this month for Jupiter is it’s conjunction with the Galactic Center at 27° Sagittarius, exactly on December 5, while simultaneously, it is conjuncting Pluto at 28° Sagittarius. As described in last months’s article, the Galactic Center is the intense vortex point at the center of the Milky Way that sets the rhythms of pulsation and orbital patterns for all creation in our Galaxy. It was know as the Divinely Feminine Portal called the Eye of Isis by the ancient Egyptians and the Hunab Ku, source of creation, by the Mayans. On December 10th Jupiter conjuncts Pluto exactly at 28° Sagittarius. We are drawn to our depths for release of stagnation and core level transformation. Jupiter sextiles the North Node in Pisces and quintiles Uranus also in Pisces. So all this indicates an intensely powerful time to seek higher understanding and wisdom. This is to embody a higher law too: Seek and you will find, or knock and the door will be opened. This combined with Pluto is a paradigm shifting opportunity that only comes around every 250 years or so. Destinies can shift in a Uranian flash of light while Jupiter wields his lightening bolt! All in the twinkling of an eye or on a journey to the center of your soul. The Winter Solstice represents crossing the abyss within us.
On December 18th Jupiter moves into the sign of Capricorn for the next year. During this time spiritual laws, higher intentions and values may percolate into the world of business. Simultaneously the business world may bog down with stagnation, materialism, ego centeredness and greed before it begins to resurrect. Ambitions run high. Humanitarian non profit organizations will benefit and grow.
Jupiter conjuncts the Sun exactly on December 22d the Winter solstice, both at zero degrees Capricorn and also embraces Mercury at 3 degrees of Capricorn, while it begins to separate from the conjunction with Pluto at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. This powerful tight grouping of important planets at the Winter Solstice, hold a torch of illumination, for this journey to our core and the year ahead. Follow up on your thirst for deeper insights and understanding with dedicated study and meditation.
The Winter Solstice is about our annual recognition and rekindling of inner Divinity, light and soul forces that guide us. It all bodes well for profound spiritual insights to be expressed, because with Mars opposing this group, there is pressure to act and walk the new script from the heavens. Mars is the peaceful warrior in his position at 3 degrees of Cancer.
While standing in your power, can you cultivate tolerance and compassion for the less fortunate. Mars urges us to distinguish between assertion and aggression; as well as power versus force. Jupiter urges that first we do no harm. Mars commands us to make commitments to do things differently based on the wisdom that emerges.
Now we can snuggle in for the cold contemplative season of winter. The wisdom that comes after a release or death often brings truth forward from our core. The lush foliage of summer is now composting, involved in the transformation that creates fertility for the next cycle. The harvest that was gathered in, is nourishing life through the dark, bleak months. We are more introspective. The meaning of what has been lost or gained in our lives this last year is fruit for thought. Death awakens renewed appreciation for life. The veils that separate realities are extremely thin now. If you were even more still, what wisdom might whisper to you?
