Seasonal Star Cycles

Gemini the Twins May 20th - June 21st
We split into dual natures as male and female
June 2008

Elizabeth Ault MA CPCC

Last month we realized that Taurus the Bull is an earnest worker who strives to balance the rhythms of his/her heart with the oscillations of his mind and has the motivation to forge ahead to create progress. Gemini runs from May 20th through June 21st, which is the summer solstice. Gemini also known as the Twins, are the social butterflies of the Zodiac, often seeking to complete themselves through someone else. Quick witted Gemini’s are friendly, talkative, attractive, well read, love meeting people and traveling to new places. They have unending curiosity, and are able to witness themselves objectively. Geminis experience a visceral fulfillment with swift physical movement, and joy in the feeling of their hair flowing and blowing in the breeze.

For the Twins or Gemini the task in life is to learn perseverance, faithfulness and commitment. Can you find the inner silence of trust within your heart, that is the foundation for faith? This quiets the mind. If we can be faithful to ourselves and spontaneously sustain our connection to our own realms of soul, spirit or higher self, only then we can be faithful and sustain our relationships to others. The Twins embody the relationship with our own higher self. Geminis are associated with to the concept of the twin soul which can be imagined as our soul mate orIf ideal partner, or even the male or female counterpart of our own original self. Many believe that at an earlier stage of human evolution we were all an inseparable aspect of One Source. As we spiraled toward incarnation we split into dual natures as male and female. The most practical idea regarding the Twins refers to our relationships to duality of all sorts. The Whole Self is the happy marriage of our male and female sides as well as our higher and lower natures.

The Glyph for Gemini is what looks like the Roman numeral II. This symbolizes the pair of Twins. One might even imagine the two hemispheres of the brain, because Gemini is cerebral to an extreme. The symbol could also represent the gates we walk through on our journey of self discovery, our journey of making peace with the dueling forces of life within and without us. This may remind us of a saying of Jesus which is “Be in the world but not of it.”

The Twins have sharp, and lively minds that love diversity. They are gifted with creative expression and communication skills including writing, public speaking, stand up comedy, etc. They delight in adventures to discover widely diverse and stimulating new situations and cultures. They could become think-a-holics if they do not find a way to ground themselves.. Airy Gemini’s may fall into living and traveling entirely in their mind if they are not careful. They can be like the rolling stone seeking the answer that’s blowing in the wind. Their imaginations are so clever that they can imagine themselves into someone else’s mind easily and they must guard against cultivating envy and gossip. Accessing their own feelings may be challenging. Nervous and impatient, it may be difficult to settle down. They love to keep their options open until the last minute.

Mercury, ruler of Gemini, is a speedy traveler, always orbiting closest to the Sun. He completes his orbit in a mere 8 months. Imagined by the Greeks as a fleet of foot messenger with wings on his heels, Mercury carried messages directly from God, Zeus or the Sun to those beyond his realm. He has the ultimate Mercurial mind, oscillating and restless, creative and always on the cutting edge.

Mercury rules our dual limbs and lungs, communications and unconscious thinking. It is seen to preside over the realm of inter-personal karmic debts or indebtedness, and affects our choices. Magical Mercury serves to bring the genius of language into human reality to help us in our pursuit of truth. A higher octave of Mercury is about developing the capacity to speak about spiritual reality in a simpler and more universally understood way.

During June the Sun climbs to it’s highest point in the sky reaching the longest light filled day at the summer solstice. When the expansive light reaches it’s annual zenith. At this season, the soul forces of the Earth extend all the way out beyond the Earth to commune with the Sun and other celestial spheres. This is the furthest point from the center of the Earth and most uncharted expanse of the perennial journey of the soul forces of the Earth. In the northern hemisphere, the Sun is at it’s closest to the Earth. Our own mercurial self attempts to rise to meet this Light. The ancients in their temples all over the world celebrated this time as a time of communion with the being of the Sun, the Light or great Spirit(s). A dispensation of grace was most possible and many prayed for new insights, or direct messages from God at this time.

June is the traditional month when many marriage vows and sunny honeymoons are taken. Anniversaries are celebrated Flowers flourish providing bountifully for ceremonial wedding bouquets and decorations. This follows the ancient traditional Spring fertility rites of finding your true love in May.

Now is the time of year when school’s out and many of us pack up for an adventure to relieve our routine way of perceiving our lives. June flies by. We seek movement and a change of scene that often brings new insights that help us appreciate or highlight how to shift our current reality.

The world of nature is resplendent with the beauty of lush green leaves, irises, purple dames’ rockets, and garden fresh salad greens. Dandelions proliferate across lawns and weeds are mighty and challenge civilized gardens everywhere. Give in to the desire to daydream in the Sun, lay in the tall grass and listen to the buzz of the busy bumble bees, watch the hummingbirds zip around and notice the dance of the flowers on their tender swaying stalks. How do you experience yourself connected with all life everywhere? What or who are you committed to and why? Thinking about the kind of questions posed by each sign of the zodiac helps keep us in tune with the natural flow of change and seasonal evolution through out the cycle of the year. Alignment with all the laws and forces of supportive nature can be a boon to achieving the progress we want in life.
